GSM Town Hall Recap
Thank you for those who came by last week for our Town Hall Forum.
To recap:
There was a big discussion on the way that the university schedules
classes. They do their absolute best to create no conflicts amongst
classes, but sometimes this does not occur. Full-time students are
able to attend joint classes at either OCM (One Capitol Mall) or in
San Ramon. Joint classes have been created because some of the niche
subject matter traditionally gets a small turnout, but can reach a
critical mass if held jointly.
Winter Quarter 2007 has a few overlaps, this was not the intention of
the GSM, but extenuating circumstances unique to each course took
place, causing overlap. A few classes will be added in winter
quarter, but they are not yet posted because the professors have not
been confirmed at 100% confidence level. Business Law was a big
topic for second years, it will also be offered in the Spring, but
most likely through the OCM. Check the Sacramento WP site to confirm.
Spring Quarter 2007 currently has no conflicts among class times.
There will be a few classes added, and at least 1, but up to 3,
finances classes might also be added (Business Law, Real Estate
Finance, Derivatives are all potentials).
299 & 499 Courses. These are individually created courses with
faculty sponsors or practicum courses, including CCG and Consulting
Center Projects. A GSM student can take up to 6 units of credit
across these two course types.
Frequency of classes offered is such that the administration wants no
student to leave the GSM without taking every class that they wanted
to take. Classes will be offered with enough frequency to achieve
this goal. Therefore, if there was a class that you really wanted to
take this Winter 2007 quarter, but can't fit it into the schedule,
you should find it next year, most likely taught during the same
quarter as this year, with some exceptions.
IT issues also arose, but briefly. If you feel that you are still
struggling with any problems related to IT, please get in contact
with the IT folks - remember that they are your friends - and that we
should also treat them with respect.
AD Castanias will be sending out a request of each of us to help make
some decisions about other potential classes that might come up in
the future. He, and the rest of the faculty, want to make sure that
each of us is receiving as much knowledge as possible, and if there
are classes not offered you would like to see, please feel free to
knock on his door or send an email to discuss your ideas further.
At the GSM, we are 'taking ideas into action.' But we can't
accomplish this mission if we don't have all of the ideas surfaced
from each of us as students - so please feel free to share.
